Course overview

The Professional Certification Program in Interactive Guided Imagery℠ is an in-depth, comprehensive training track that includes everything in Basic Training and prepares you to serve clients with a wide spectrum imagery techniques. This certification includes a sequence of advanced courses: FIGI, ATS 1A/BATS 2A/B, ATS 3A/B, ATS 4A/B.
This program is designed for practitioners who want to master the deepest and most powerful imagery modalities within a safe, ethical, clinically-informed framework.

✦ What You’ll Learn

  • Parts Work & Inner Conflict Resolution (ATS-2A/B): Learn to work with inner “parts,” subpersonalities, resistance, ego states, and internal conflicts. You’ll gain tools to help clients recognize, dialogue with, and integrate conflicting inner parts. This is especially useful for clients dealing with addictions, habits, self-sabotage, recurring trauma responses, and internal ambivalence.
  • Regression & Inner Child / Life Purpose Imagery: Through imagery techniques you’ll learn to guide clients into regression processes that can access early memories, emotional roots, and core parts of the psyche — including inner-child work, healing of developmental wounds, and exploration of life’s deeper purpose. This helps clients uncover limiting patterns, resolve unresolved emotional material, and reconnect with their inner wisdom. (While the ACADGI course descriptions emphasize inner-child work especially for childhood-trauma survivors under ATS 3B, the broader certification framework supports regression-related, transformational, and symbolic imagery work.)
  • Trauma, Developmental & Lifespan Work (ATS-3A/B): The curriculum includes training for working with children and adolescents — addressing developmental issues, behavioral challenges, stress or medical anxiety, and grief/trauma — as well as working with adult survivors of childhood trauma. You’ll learn how to adapt imagery approaches to different ages and developmental stages, and manage complex emotional or trauma-related issues with care.
  • Imagery for Chronic Illness, Pain, Life-Threatening Conditions & Transformation (ATS-4A/B): You’ll gain skills for guiding clients through imagery for physical illness, pain management, chronic health issues, life-threatening diseases, and also through life- and death-transitions including grief, loss, end-of-life, and major transformation. This aims to help clients navigate physical and existential crises with mind-body support, resilience, and inner resources.

✦ How You’ll Learn

  • The Professional Certification path includes basic training (FIGI + ATS 1A/B + Preceptorship I), then continues building through ATS 2A/B, ATS 3A/B, and ATS 4A/B, including 2 live online “preceptorships” (practicums), 9 self-study modules, supervised practice, exams, and guided mentorship under experienced faculty.
  • Graduates of the full certification are equipped to practice as fully certified imagery guides — with the knowledge and skills to support clients through everything from basic stress relief to deep trauma healing, life transitions, serious illness, grief, and transformational self-work.

✦ Why It Matters

This program is ideal for mental-health professionals, coaches, counselors, nurses, holistic practitioners, wellness professionals, and anyone committed to supporting clients through deep healing, mind-body integration, trauma recovery, grief and loss, chronic illness, or life transitions.

By mastering advanced imagery techniques like Parts Work, Regression, Inner Child work, and transformational life-purpose imagery, you become capable of guiding clients through profound inner work — helping them resolve inner conflicts, heal past wounds, reconnect to purpose, and navigate physical or existential challenges with inner wisdom, resilience, and empowerment.

This certification not only expands your clinical toolbox — it transforms how you show up as a guide: confident, ethically grounded, versatile, and deeply effective across a broad range of client needs.

Interactive Guided Imagery℠ explained

Quiet the mind.

Interactive Guided Imagery℠ is based on Jungian psychology and the idea that our reality is largely a manifestation of our mind. This applies to everything from our personal worries to our professional aspirations.

Quieting the mind allows us to open our clients to the inner realms and explore in a way that is rarely experienced.

Listen to the unconscious.

Our unconscious mind is a collection of intuitions, emotions, memories, and beliefs, often expressed more vividly through images than words. Western culture tends to underplay the significance of these images and the feelings they evoke.

As we quiet the mind, the unconscious starts to open up and allow the deeply held intuitions, beliefs, and emotions that it has held onto. Interactive Guided Imagery℠ has the unique ability to  uncover insights more rapidly and directly helpful than conventional diagnostics.

Interact with the inner wisdoms.

Using guided imagery, clients can visualize and interact with an image representing a pain, trauma or challenge. These images are deeply resonant archetypes that clients build relationships with and grow to trust, sometimes more deeply than any relationships in the external world.

Interactive Guided Imagery℠ incorporates techniques from hypnosis, neurolinguistic programming, psychosynthesis, and Jungian active imagination. It gives us access to our innate resources guiding us to deal with challenges and heal from the inside out.

restored my enjoyment

For me the most important part of my Interactive Guided Imagery℠ training was to really develop my skills as a listener. The AGI training program also helped me to be less judgmental and interpretive with regard to what I hear, whether in an imagery session or in other patient communications. Finally, my work with imagery has restored my enjoyment in practicing medicine because it takes me and my patients into unknown, magical places of healing and awareness.

making a major contribution

Though I have been in practice since 1973, I have seldom seen the depth of understanding, clarity of direction, and motivation toward change through other modalities. Clearly Interactive Guided Imagery℠ is an approach to therapy which is making a major contribution.
