Who
Can Enroll in Certification Training?
Licensed
Health Care Professionals:
The Academy's Professional Certification Training Program
was originally designed for health care clinicians licensed
to diagnose, treat, or do counseling in their state of
primary residence, and for students enrolled in an academic
program leading to such licensure.
Licensed applicants for Certification must submit a copy of
their current state license to practice as a health
professional, or a copy of their student ID card if they
are pursuing a credential leading to a professional
license. Professional licenses or student registration must
be valid, active, and unencumbered to be granted
Certification and to maintain Certification status.
Health Educators:
The Academy's staff recognized that there are also many
unlicensed professionals who could greatly enhance their
clinical skills by completing Certification training. These
include art therapists, body workers, stress managers,
members of the clergy, lay counselors, and health educators
teaching smoking cessation, weight control, and other
health promotion programs.
Unlicensed applicants must submit a brief (1 page) letter
describing their goals in learning IGIsm, their
plans for using it, their access to psychological
consultation or supervision, if needed, and any previous
training or experience they've had in counseling, plus a CV
or resume. Upon receipt of these materials, the Academy's
Credentials Committee will review their request and
determine their eligibility to enter Certification
training.
Life
Coaches:
More recently, the Academy has also opened it's
Certification Training Program and other activities to
professional coaches since this training can greatly
enhance their coaching skills. The Academy's 20th Annual
Conference webcast has been approved to 25 hrs CE credit by
the International Coach Federation (ICF), and ICF approval
for the entire Certification Training Program is pending.
Coach applicants must submit a brief (1 page) letter
describing their goals in learning IGIsm, their
plans for using it, their access to professional
consultation or supervision, if needed, their coaching
training and experience, plus a CV or resume. Upon receipt
of these materials, the Academy's Credentials Committee
will review their request and determine their eligibility
to enter Certification training.
Other
Professionals:
Occasionally, the Academy has permitted other professionals
to enroll in Certification training. Other applications
should submit a brief (1 page) letter describing their
goals in learning IGIsm, their plans for using
it, their access to professional consultation or
supervision, if needed, their relevant training and
experience, plus a CV or resume. Upon receipt of these
materials, the Academy's Credentials Committee will review
their request and determine their eligibility to enter
Certification training.
Who
Cannot Enroll in Certification Training?
The Academy's Professional Certification Training Program
is not intended for patients or clients who are seeking
guided imagery therapy or for people who are currently
dealing with unstable psychological issues.
Such individuals are best advised to seek care from a
professional who is already Certified in IGIsm.
